With Sam (quit NTFC), Toby (Sheffield Wednesday) and Michael (party) all out we were left with 13 players on the day of our away cup fixture against a team sitting third in the division above us. We arrived 25 minutes before kickoff due to traffic and me going on a magical mystery tour
Thankfully the pitch was booked up by others so we had chance to still warm up properly prior to the game. It was during the warm up that it came to my attention that Alfie’s heal was still hurting and both Ben’s felt sick...........
We played on a 3G pitch which proved to be a fast paced surface. Within the first 5 minutes I could see this wasn’t going to be our day; certain players started with the same lack of enthusiasm as they finished our last fixture. I still have yet to master picking a midfield that is capable of dominating the centre of the pitch. The Cavalier’s dominated in every area of the pitch. To give credit to them, they are a very skilful bunch and they all worked hard for each other. We have somehow lost the style and attitude that we showed against Calverton. I can’t work us out.....We somehow turn up in a different frame of mind sometimes, Collingham, Dunkirk and now Cavaliers but with a gem of a performance in-between against Calverton. To be fair today, we were carrying illness and injuries came during the match to Jack and Rhyce too. Alfie did come on but had to go straight off with his heal.
I’ll sum it up quick. We were annihilated 12-0. This was my worst defeat with NTFC and one I don’t wish to repeat. It was hard to take positives from the game, as the lads all got on each other’s backs too which for me was the most disappointing part of the day.
As Rod suggested, let’s not dwell on this performance today and simply try and work on getting things right for the second half of the season
My MOM the match today went to Jack who put in a solid committed performance and didn’t once moan, even when he badly hurt his hand too
