Happy new year
The YEL split their seasons into two halves to help keep things interesting with the top two and bottom two teams shifted up or down a division. We started our new season today at home against West Bridgeford, whom we'd played in a friendly tournament last year and had been relegated from division 2. They are great bunch of lads and this has fed down from their manager who is a credit to them.
The lads seemed a little lack lustre before kick off and Rhyce pulled up with a calf strain so I had to demote him to the bench which wasn't the best of starts. Today we entertained Shaqueal's last game for us as he ventures onto Sheffield United (good luck son!!).
As with the warm up the game continued in the same vein, we simply looked absent and the fight wasn't there. Without any dominance, West Bridgeford scored after 10 minutes after a saved free kick fell to the feet of an unchallenged WB striker (very disappointing). WB did have two other decent chances when left totally unmarked in the box but thankfully they missed the target. The one and only chance that we had came in the last minute from a headed corner which just shaved the post.
The half time team talk was met by despondent faces so I asked that they try and inspire each other through individual performances. Ben L and Alfie came off ill and were replaced by Michael and Theo. Shaqueal burst into action straight away when he received the ball after a few seconds and whizzed down the wing taking on everyone in his path. He cut inside and scored from a tight angle.
Michael and Theo brought some composure into our game and we did start to string a few neat passes around but unfortunately the gears never shifted up for us. WB scored two more goals in the 2nd half which were weakly defended.
We never looked like scoring :(. Rhyce was brought on and players shifted around but the game ended 1-3. Apart from the overall lack of enthusiasm from the team my disappointment was seeing our Will come off uninterested and not wanting to come back on when asked.
The MOJO hasn't definitely diminished but we need to find a way of relighting it......any ideas anyone :)
