The magical mystery tour given by the sat nav finally got us to Long Eaton’s ground. The facilities were that of the first team so we shared the stadium dressing rooms. The pitch that we played on was in great condition too (so no excuses).
Paul did yet another beneficial warm up for the lads and we were off!! Four subs sat patiently. The game started and ended in the same vein of attitude and application. The lads fully understand that due to the large squad, everyone is fighting for their positions....and it was reflected in their performances today. The Sumal boys were constant threats going forward and their efforts getting back to defend was spot on. The central pair (Michael and Rhyce) controlled the game with their composed passing. William was constantly being a pain in the butt for the Long Eaton defence. Sam, Jack and Alfie helped support both midfield and defence and our two central defenders bossed their opponents.
I’ve been pining for everyone to be brave and clearly shout out their names when challenging or simply going to the ball and it finally clicked in today, with Ben Hall leading the way. His captaincy must have encouraged this. Robert too shouted, came and cleared up everything thrown at our goal.
We won the game 4-1, with a hat-trick from William and one from Ishaan. It was a beauty of an own goal from Ben H that gave Long Eaton a consolation goal but to be honest, we never really felt threatened and we pretty much had full control of the game.
All subs that came on put in their all too and had fantastic attitudes.
This week is what makes it all worthwhile turning up for, when the lads take on board instructions and simply go out and play the game how it should be....fast, positive, moving the ball around the pitch on the ground, plenty of shots and controlling any threats.
My man of the match today has to be for Ben for his total dominance at the back and for his encouragement.
Well done boys, from one very happy coach
